The update from 4.1.16-1 to 4.1.19-1 seems to over double the memory usage I've seen it happen on all server which I've updated to 4.1.19-1 am using ps_mem python script to get the memory usage top or ps report the same anyway.

The memory usage on 4.1.19-1 is 21.9 MiB + 1.5 MiB = 23.4 MiB nsd (4) after updating to 4.1.19-1 it jumps to 82.8 MiB + 1.4 MiB = 84.2 MiB nsd (4).

Correction

The memory usage on 4.1.16-1 is 21.9 MiB + 1.5 MiB = 23.4 MiB nsd (4) after updating to 4.1.19-1 it jumps to 82.8 MiB + 1.4 MiB = 84.2 MiB nsd (4).

yes, the default changed from using db files in /var/lib/nsd to keeping things in RAM only. If you really prefer disk files, you can change nsd.conf and comment out: database: ""

Nsd version 4.1.19 is using the same config when it was running 4.1.16 https://pastebin.com/zn0qBN20.

I've had look at the changes for nsd version at https://nlnetlabs.nl/projects/nsd/index.html#releases, I don't see any new added features that would cuase the ram usage to over double.
