Seems to work OK and regression tests past on:

Dell Precision T5610 2 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2603 v2 @ 1.80GHz (8 cores total) NVIDIA Corporation GK104 [GeForce GTX 760] (rev a1) Fedora 35

But I did get a massive number of error messages during the install, so many it overflowed my scrollback, like this:

hardlink: cannot link ./virt/kvm/Kconfig to /usr/src/kernels/5.15.16-200.fc35.x86_64/./virt/kvm/Kconfig.hardlink-temporary: File exists

hardlink: cannot link ./virt/lib/Kconfig to /usr/src/kernels/5.15.16-200.fc35.x86_64/./virt/lib/Kconfig.hardlink-temporary: File exists

Default and Performance regression tests PASS:

  • NUC6i5SYK, Intel® Core™ i5-6260U CPU @ 1.80GHz × 4, Mesa Intel® Iris(R) Graphics 540 (SKL GT3)
  • Dell XPS 13 9350, Intel® Core™ i7-6560U CPU @ 2.20GHz × 4, Mesa Intel® Iris(R) Graphics 540 (SKL GT3)

About the performance test, not this kernel: The performance test took 70 minutes on a NUC6i5. A second NUC6i5 takes about 10 minutes. The timing test results are about the same, so the extra hour seems to be when the regression test is not timing a test. Mentioning this in case it happens to other people.

Works for me: all using the Mate Desktop Environment.

sirius: desktop 16GB Intel i7-3770 CPU desktop (SSD + 5 hard drives in RAID-6) real:10m16.705s user:4m36.303s sys:5m7.107s

sedna: laptop 8GB Intel i5-2520M CPU Lenovo T420 (SSD only) real:9m34.403s user:3m45.692s sys:4m44.046s

mercury: laptop 32GB AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon 5500 Graphics (SSD only) rea1:15m3.738s user:7m2.745s sys:5m57.230s

*** I’m intensely curious as to the reason for why sedna seems to randomly fluctuate between short (under 11 minutes) & extremely long (109+ minutes) elapsed times for the performance test!

Sorry again :( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2048093 Still working with 5.16.2, because of troubles since 5.16.3 with AMGPU

User Icon jforbes commented & provided feedback 9 months ago

@emarci Then it is not a regression from the current stable kernel (5.16.10). By giving negative karma, what you are actually saying is everyone who has a bug fixed with this release (and there are several) should wait to get their fixes until your specific issue is fixed. Negative karma is useful for new regressions, your issue came in with 5.16.3/5.15.18, and is not a new regression.

User Icon emarci commented & provided feedback 9 months ago

@jforbes sorry, didn't think about that. I'll make it good by finding the commit that caused my problem!

User Icon jforbes commented & provided feedback 9 months ago

@emarci that would be super helpful. For some reason 5.16 came with a number of AMD issues that impact only certain hardware (I run a few AMD cards here and couldn't reproduce most of them). A large number of the 5.16.x updates have contained AMD fixes, but clearly your issue is still unknown.

Works also great on T490s now as well, thanks!

anothr thing I've noticed since previous kernels; terminal console FB doesn't detect my resolution anymore on external monitor and defaults to 1024x768. Is that a known bug?
