Kernel is vulnerable to Spectre-V2 according to spectre-meltdown-checker.sh:
* Mitigation 2
* Kernel compiled with retpoline option: YES
* Kernel compiled with a retpoline-aware compiler: NO (kernel reports minimal retpoline compilation)
* Retpoline enabled: YES
The kernel is compiled by a non-retpoline capable compiler:
4.14.17-300.fc27.x86_64 (mockbuild@bkernel01.phx2.fedoraproject.org) (gcc version 7.2.1 20170915 (Red Hat 7.2.1-2) (GCC)) #1 SMP Mon Feb 5 14:12:30 UTC 2018
WTF is wrong with the Fedora Infrastructure that now after GCC 7.3.1 is in the repos the kernel get build with 7.2.1 while 4.14.16-300.fc27.x86_64 was built with a retpoline compiler - Kernel compiled with a retpoline-aware compiler: NO versus 4.14.16-300.fc27.x86_64 'Kernel compiled with a retpoline-aware compiler: YES (kernel reports full retpoline compilation)'
Yes, I am aware of the retpoline issues, I had been manually doing a build root override, but thought it was no longer necessary since the gcc update was tagged for stable, just bad timing. I am not going to rebuild this kernel as 4.14.18 is due within the next 24 hours. This kernel will not go to stable

Note that this wasn't the case with 4.14.16

@jforbes - thanks - 4.14.18 is out and contains a ton of meltdown/spectre specific commits https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.14.18
Retpoline compiler regression
No regressions noticed.
