Hello,

Trying to install, therefore leaving neutral karma.

What are step-by-step comamnds to upgrade from winehq-staging to this version ( assuming it is winehq-devel )? I do not want to loose all installed software in my current wine prefix.

It is also a shame that WineHQ projects homepage is not a big help here...

There is no upgrade process because there is nothing to upgrade from or to. Wine-staging was just a series of patches applied on top of a release of Wine. It was not a fork or separate set of tools. You will not lose any installed software.

@mooninite, so I can simply run 'sudo dnf install winehq-devel --enablerepo=updates-testing' and all should be fine?

The "winehq" package is not part of Fedora. That is provided by the winehq.org website. The Fedora package is called "wine" and has not changed its name. 'sudo dnf update wine* --enablerepo=updates-testing' to update your existing Fedora package.

Hmm. Then either I have to do something with my yum/dnf cache or something is broken on my machine. This is not working:

[linards@kompiic ~]$ sudo dnf update wine* --enablerepo=updates-testing [sudo] password for linards: Last metadata expiration check: 0:58:27 ago on Tue 13 Feb 2018 06:04:24 PM EET. Dependencies resolved. Nothing to do. Complete! [linards@kompiic ~]$ wine --version wine-2.21 (Staging)

Correct. Your mirror and/or cache do not have the update, yet. You can add "--refresh" to your command to attempt to pull the latest data available.

Nah; no luck :( I think I just have to wait...

[linards@kompiic ~]$ sudo dnf update wine* --refresh --enablerepo=updates-testing Last metadata expiration check: 0:00:00 ago on Tue 13 Feb 2018 07:12:35 PM EET. Dependencies resolved. Nothing to do. Complete!

had to uninstall wine-times-new-roman-fonts.noarch 2.20-1.fc27 with --best --allowerasing

Cannot properly install or upgrade. See following paste: https://pastebin.com/Fs9Ci9wn

@filiperosset, I have fixed this. A new build will be obsoleting this one shortly.

@hxunbanned, you have a 3rd-party package installed. The "winehq-staging" package is not from Fedora. You must remove it before using the Fedora package.

@mooninite , yes, I resolved it. Even made blog-post how to deal with it: https://linardsliepins.wordpress.com/2018/02/14/how-to-install-update-to-wine-linked-to-development-or-stable-repos-version-3-1-1-in-fedora-27-x86-64/

Unfortunately, fedora-easy-karma is having some glitches for me (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1545257), therefore I cannot be 100% sure to give positive karma still.

Also had to remove times new Roman in same way before the fix. Thanks for update. Haven't tested since. Works well, basic test included running my copy of Skyrim. No noticeable regressions there.

Seems working fine ( in sense of no regressions ) for now. Tested on Steam + EVE Online

Although this is not packaging issue, I am constantly facing errors when trying to spawn multiple wineservers up. I get errors like those in my terminal:

wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string, error message "wine client error:0: version mismatch 544/548.
Your wineserver binary was not upgraded correctly, or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH.
Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running?"

Additional light testing of the various wine apps (file browser, cfg, minesweeper, notepad) and Borderlands 1, works as expected.

karma: +1

@mooninite Will wine in fedora ever switch back to wine-staging at some point later in time? Last I heard, wine-staging got new maintainers: https://twitter.com/LutrisGaming/status/965329572873949184

@urbenlegend, I will keep my eye on it, but they must show that they will maintain the same level of quality as before and have a plan to upstream the patches to Winehq before I will consider it.
